Racing driver Alfred Nilsson: "Most of the year's 365 days are spent living out of a suitcase — everything else just has to work"

Meet Alfred Nilsson! The racing driver from Ystad who, at just 24, has already earned a place in the Swedish national team and behind the wheel for BMW M Motorsport at GT3 level. This season he's running not one but two parallel racing programs — the Italian GT3 Championship and a program at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife. Two programs, two calendars, a life that rarely looks the same from one week to the next.

Even so, Ystad is still home. Most of the year's 365 days are spent living out of a suitcase — and it's precisely there, in the middle of all that travel, that Alfred has had to find a way to hold everything together: the planning, the communication with his partners, and all the details that would otherwise easily fall through the cracks. A workday that rarely looks the same twice

Behind every race weekend lie weeks of preparation that rarely show on the outside. Physical and mental training for the next race. Testing and development together with BMW. Media, PR and events across Sweden and Europe. And running alongside all of that: communication with his own partners, upcoming events, coaching assignments and all the admin that holds the whole operation together.

"A big part of the challenge is making sure nothing falls through the cracks," says Alfred. "For a long time I felt like my planning, partner communication and practical details were scattered across too many channels and tools at once. When you travel as much as I do, things easily get lost or you end up doing the same work twice."

He wanted one place where everything could come together — and, at the same time, a clear, professional channel straight to his partners, where they could get a closer look at what happens behind the scenes. That's what made him try Rukkor.

Partners get to follow along behind the scenes

The feature Alfred uses the most is the channel structure for his partner communication. There, his partners can follow his day-to-day in a way that used to require a patchwork of group chats and email threads.

"I've built it up so my partners can easily follow along behind the scenes in a clean, user-friendly way, and even interact with each other on the same platform," he says. "That means we don't need scattered external group chats in different places — everything is gathered in one and the same spot."

Around the channels, he's built the rest of his working routine in Rukkor. In Drive, he links relevant files so everyone involved can easily find what they need. He's also started using the AI tool Wingman to put together briefs and presentations ahead of race weekends — something that saves him a fair amount of time. And ahead of every weekend, the team and relevant partners gather for a video call to get up to speed on the race together.

Then there's his own, personal corner of the platform: Boards, where he plans more or less his entire life.

"There's a lot spinning around in my head all the time, and a big part of the challenge is finding the balance between the sport itself and everything around it," he says. "That's why I appreciate Boards — I can follow the process visually and clearly, see exactly where I am on every task, and at the same time find all the relevant information linked directly to it. It means I don't have to keep everything in my head and can instead trust that the structure is there, no matter how much is happening at once."

Livestreams that live on after the race

Ahead of every race weekend, Alfred handles his livestream briefings with partners directly via Sessions — and it's a detail he keeps coming back to with clear enthusiasm.

"The great thing is that everything is recorded automatically, so if someone misses being there live, it's still available to watch afterwards," he says. "It works especially well right before a race weekend, when I can easily update everyone on the situation and conditions right as I'm on site — which makes the partners feel much more engaged and close to what's happening."

These days he's moved his regular video meetings there too.

Two sides of the same week

Alfred's week has a clear rhythm. Monday to Wednesday is about the computer — time for deep planning, booking upcoming events and structuring the weeks ahead. From Thursday to Sunday, when he's out racing, the phone takes over.

"That's when I can easily give quick, relevant updates to partners and the team, while still always having everything on hand if I need to check something," he says.

A sense of security in the background

Having everything gathered in one place is, according to Alfred himself, the single biggest advantage.

"I can forget about all the scattered communication across different tools and platforms that you'd otherwise easily end up with," he says. "Personally, it also means a lot that I can build my own structure and visual setup exactly the way I want it — I'm no longer locked into how some other tool has decided things should look or work."

He illustrates it with a concrete, everyday example: all those small thoughts that pop up during a hectic day. Did I already do that? Right, that still needs to get done.

"Before, I might have had to search through several different tools just to confirm one simple thing, which could easily waste five minutes for nothing. Now I just open Rukkor, on the computer or straight from my phone, and see the answer right away. It might sound small, but it saves me a lot of mental energy and unnecessary notes in everyday life."

The fact that the data is also handled according to European standards isn't something he thinks about day to day — but it is, as he puts it himself, a sense of security in the background rather than something he needs to actively worry about.
