“I wouldn’t be able to do some of the things I do today without Geometra”
In Undersåker, just outside Åre, Per Lindholm works as a building materials sales representative at K-Bygg. The pace is high and no two working days are the same.
“I have a lot of customer contact via phone and email. It’s orders, product quotations or quotes for entire projects. Often it involves questions about which products are suitable for what, product descriptions or technical solutions,” he says.
Per sometimes visits customers to inspect worksites, take measurements and discuss construction projects on site.
“Today I’m heading out to a customer who needs help with new solutions. It’s often about finding time- or cost-effective alternatives and what we as a supplier can contribute.”
Around 85 per cent of customers are trade professionals, but private individuals also account for a significant share.
“We primarily focus on professionals, but many private customers shop with us too. We’re highly appreciated because we can provide very solid information and guidance.”
Between 20 and 30 per cent of Per’s customers receive help with quantity take-offs.
“Some people feel relieved not having to do it themselves, while others find it difficult. That’s where we can really make a difference.”
A nationwide builders’ merchant with a broad offering
K-Bygg is a nationwide builders’ merchant with 50–60 stores across Sweden and a strong presence in the Nordic region. The company is owned by the Finnish group Kesko. The product range is extensive: building materials, tools, kitchens, bathrooms, machinery and a wide range of services.
“We assemble orders, arrange transport and provide advisory services. The list of what we can deliver is long,” says Per.
Expertise is a central part of the offering. Customers often know what they want – but not always.
“If a customer needs to meet specific material requirements, we can guide them with our expertise. We learn something new every day, about new products or software. We often recommend different types of materials and, for example, sell fully pre-cut timber frames for house construction.”
How Geometra simplifies quantity take-offs
Estimating and quantity take-offs are a key part of the job, and digitalisation has made a major difference. Per uses Geometra to measure and calculate quantities every week.
“I use Geometra to measure and calculate materials, both large and small projects. A customer might come in wanting to know what a specific house would cost. Then I calculate all the materials required for the entire build. Sometimes it’s just the square metres of a floor that need to be worked out.”
The need varies throughout the year.
“During the first quarter, we often deal with larger projects, so we calculate complete houses.”
Per is clear about the impact Geometra has had on quantity take-offs.
“I wouldn’t be able to do some of the things I do today without Geometra. It’s an extremely important programme for us. Compared to when I started at K-Bygg using a scale ruler and calculator, we’re talking light-years in terms of how well it works now.”
The benefits are both time-related and qualitative.
“I save countless hours over the course of a year by using Geometra. On top of that, I can deliver a completely different level of confidence that everything has been calculated correctly.”
Clearer documentation for customers
With Geometra, Per can also provide customers with clearer and more pedagogical documentation.
“I can deliver better documentation where I actually show how I’ve been thinking. I print out PDFs and often colour-code them. If I’ve measured the flooring in a house, I highlight the areas I’ve calculated and how many square metres there are in each room. It becomes very clear for the customer.”
Together with Geometra’s support team, K-Bygg in Undersåker has also developed its own row-item library within the software.
“Using it makes it faster and easier to calculate the quantities of everything – wall studs, boards, frames and panels. I simply measure and choose the material I want from the library. Everything is already there, with ready-made calculations and formulas. That’s a huge advantage.”
For larger projects involving many different materials, the row-item library is particularly valuable.
“If we’re building an external wall, you simply measure it, subtract the windows, choose dimensions and materials in the library – and you’re done. You don’t have to think as much, just select the material and click.”
With a strong local presence, broad expertise and digital tools, K-Bygg continues to strengthen its position nationwide – as a reliable partner for both professionals and private customers.
